Introduction

A fantasy TV drama, called 'Foresight' gets streamed on Disney+ about a teenage girl named 'Elina' who has only recently discovered a superpower that has been passed on from her ancestor however she does not know this information until it has been discovered with a bit of confusion.

 

Media Language

In my 2 minute short TV drama I will show 2 locations, one where she is going to leave the house and it happens that a kid was about to get hit by car and earlier that day she had the exact same dream of a kid being in a car accident and the other location is her in her room as she gets an anonymous zoom call. The diegetic sound such as the car hitting the breaks. It will cause a shocking atmosphere where it will give the audience a reaction which they might not have suspected. For example is the kid going to be hit or not? The non-diegetic sound would be when a voice over will appear as she was questioning what was going on to herself and the person on the zoom call with her had read her mind. This is showing that everyone around has their own special power and she is one of them. There's a lot of different shots of this 2 minutes film, there are close ups of Elina and the anonymous caller as they are on a zoom call which illustrates the quarantine times where people were using the media to contact and connect with each other. There will be an extreme close up of the laptop as she searches 'How did my dream become true'. This is where she will try to do her own research showing the audience she has no one to talk to about this. The use of lightening in this will be as she left the house it was light outside, as she came back home after the incident it became darker which is telling us she went out for a while. For setting it is not going to show during these 2 minutes however at the end of this extract the anonymous caller will say 'You must meet us in the office NOW!' This is telling us this is about to become more serious and Elina will have to figure out what is the next step to meet this person.

I plan to reinforce and subvert one of my main hero characters is wearing a hijab which will show the diverse backgrounds expected by younger audiences. The main character 'Elina' will be presented to be a stereotypical teenage girl. This will be through her bedroom location and her attitude towards other characters.

Media Audiences [approximately 100 words]

My target audience is welcomed for family audience and is rated 9+. This doesn't have a gender preference however it's more likely to be watched by young teenage girls as the main character is a teenage girl who is discovering her soon to be changed life.

You have one of the key categories for Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory for example diversion and entertainment. You can see this with how the character Elina has 

entered the escapism and being entertained away from her normal life. She is trying to figure out what she has been missing on. In this show she has focused on her superpowers to try to understand and come to a conclusion of what led her to this magical power.
